Elecnor, in consortium with Rover Alcisa and Assignia, wins a EUR 230 million contract to construct a tramline in Algeria

Madrid, 11 June 2013.- Elecnor, in a consortium with Assignia and Rover Alcisa, has won a EUR 230 million contract to construct a tramline in Algeria awarded by the Algerian Ministry of Transport through the company Enterprise Metro d’Alger.

Specifically, the project involves the construction of the first tramline in the Algerian city of Ouargla, 700 kilometres south of Algiers. The 12.6 kilometre line will connect the city’s old quarter with a university area located in the outskirts.

The project is part of a government plan to build 14 tramlines throughout the country. It includes the construction of five intermodal stations providing connections with other means of transport and 23 stations equipped with ticket sales offices, information desks and the required signalling and communications systems.

The tramline is expected to significantly improve the city of Ouargla, enhancing the quality of life and comfort of its inhabitants. The construction will form part of the urban landscape, which itself will be widely remodelled. Additionally, parking areas will be built in the outskirts of the city, making it easier for passengers to get around.

This project strengthens Elecnor’s profile in Algeria, where it has developed one of its most important projects in recent years: the construction of the most extensive water transmission network in the Maghreb area, reaching from the desalination plant at Souk Tleta to the Tlemcen region’s distribution network. In Africa, the company has operations in other Maghreb nations such as Mauritania, in addition to Angola, Congo, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Senegal, Burkina Faso and South Africa, among others.
